From the dyer:
My name is Caroline Niland and seven years ago my partner Jonny and I found a run down farmhouse in the Irish countryside that we knew immediately would be our home. Over the 2 years of renovating the house to make it live-able Life in the Long Grass was born from my love of knitting and painting and as a way to represent the beauty of the landscape around us. After several fast years in London and Ibiza working in design, we appreciate simple living and a country life where we get time to make quality work and create employment in rural Ireland.
We began dyeing in a make shift lean-to studio onto our house for the first 4 years and last year we scaled up to a larger studio so we could take on more work. I’m the main dyer with one dye assistant and two local girls who do the skeining and pack up your orders. We are very much an independent, artisan studio with a strong work ethos. We love scrubbing pots, cooking up color and skeining, packing and designing new colorways.
Our name represents the natural life of the wool that we dye. Wonderful sheep braving the elements and a way of life where taking the time to make something and enjoying the process is as important as the wool itself. We are crazy about texture and rustic living and are inspired by our surroundings in the countryside, you will spot this in our main body of colorways.
