Weaving 201-Color and Weave

Color and Weave is the effect of pattern and color in a fabric. In weaving the interlacement of threads, as well as the order of colors, can create patterns in the cloth. In this class we will warp the loom in two colors, create a scarf or cowl in a two-color log cabin design. Weaving is not expected to be completed within the class time, but students may take class looms home for two weeks to finish their project.

Prerequisites: Weaving 101, or ability to warp loom independently
Skills Taught: Reading a weaving draft, warping the rigid heddle loom using two colors, weaving with two colors, reading a common weaving draft and converting for use on the rigid heddle loom. We will review hem stitching and wet finishing techniques.
Project: Fringed scarf or cowl in two color log cabin pattern
Materials: 2 skeins worsted weight yarn in contrasting colors, scissors, yarn needle, tape measure, two shuttles, rigid heddle loom with 8 dent reed (shop looms available)
Homework: Purchase yarns prior to class.
